It's wonderful.

Marla and I had a lovely moment this afternoon. We were laying on my bed, I was stressing about life and unsolvable worries and wondering if she could tell what I was thinking; worrying that I would make her stressed if she soaked up my vibe. As I was thinking this specifically she rolled so that she was staring into my eyes upside down, and she stretched her paws out so that one of them patted me gently. She was reassuring me that not only did she know what I was thinking, but that her stillness would always dominate my white noise. It was very calming.caronhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15749583439520325538noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4386933659341410023.post-26673383526913154872011-02-16T21:20:31.700+10:002011-02-16T21:20:31.700+10:00The best ones are still on the memory card ;)The best ones are still on the memory card ;)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4386933659341410023.post-83687970746785663422011-02-16T19:17:56.871+10:002011-02-16T19:17:56.871+10:00Dawwwww shanks. 'n' will decrease as a result of mortality - people dropping out of a study. This could be for a number of reasons, for example, in a particularly long study over several years people might just move house and the researcher is unable to establish contact with them again. In studies on the effectiveness of weight loss surgeries I tend to believe that people will withdraw from studies when they find they are not achieving results. This means that the statistics produced at the end of the study a positively biased - they provide you with more information about the results of relatively successful study participants.

I've linked you to a graph that I've seen a number of times showing the average weight lost in the 48 months after lapband surgery. At the beginning of the study 'n' is 812. By the end of the 48 months there are only 12 people left in the study. What happened to the other 800 people I wonder?

The point is that comparing my progress to the results that are reported as statistics is stupid because those statistics tend to be made up of only the most successful recipients of surgery.

N though? She's doing fine.Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15210555353518480884noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4386933659341410023.post-14306744653035033582011-02-16T07:46:43.265+10:002011-02-16T07:46:43.265+10:00What happened to n?What happened to n?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4386933659341410023.post-51306512219885312592011-02-15T23:17:06.042+10:002011-02-15T23:17:06.042+10:00Who takes a banana to a club, then doesn't eat...Who takes a banana to a club, then doesn't eat it. I also find it facinating that we about the same weight and we both have a history of abuse, though the abuse was different. I am seeing a therapist and have decided to take on approx. 1.5 hours of exercise a day because I have the time. I only work part time. This is my latest strategy and one that I hope works as I have no other options. I plan on pursuing normal exercise once I have lost a sufficient amount of weight. I was looking in to hypnotherapy. Let me know how it goes. P.S. Don't skip dinner. P.P.S. That test is ridiculous. Remember Shayne Webkye (not sure on spelling) anyway he was that beefcake footballer who now reads the news, anyway, going by BMI, he is regarded morbidly obese. Yes, a man who once performed at a stella physical peak for his country is regarded as morbidly obese. That's enough proof that BMI is just a bad calculator. Compulsive and repetitive use may result in tolerance to the effect of the drug and withdrawal symptoms when use is reduced or stopped."

My number one problem with framing food issues as addiction is that you have no choice but persist ingesting food if you are to live. I'm don't believe the rhetoric of addiction has much to add to my current understanding of my relationship with food, exercise or my body.

There might be many similarities in the way people grapple with addiction and the way people grapple with food issues but I don't think that to say a person is addicted to food is useful - I believe the idea of addiction carries with it an understanding that you will never have a positive or 'normal' relationship with the substance in question. For this reason it seems self defeating to use the word 'addiction' to describe your issues with food if you also happen to want to improve your relationship with food.Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15210555353518480884noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4386933659341410023.post-68966206310920200912011-01-19T20:48:11.902+10:002011-01-19T20:48:11.902+10:00How would you suggest that people overcome addicti...How would you suggest that people overcome addictions such as drugs, alcohol and food then?
Would you consider that you are addicted to food?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
